Malaga 0 Real Oviedo 0, La Liga Hypermotion, La Roselada, 19/10/2024

Always good to make a visit to La Roselada, the magnificent home of CF Malaga, now back in the Segunda division as they seek to rebuild following temporary demotion to the third tier of Spanish football.

Malaga had made a solid start to life back at this level, with good defence but too many draws as few chances were being created and executed. This game went similarly.

In a very warm stadium with temperatures touching 26C in mid October, it has to be said that Real were the better side for most of the game and missed several chances to take the lead. The best player on the pitch by a distance was Santi Corzola, the former Arsenal star, whom deservedly got applauded by both set of fans, as he once spent a season on the Costa Del Sol.

Malaga had its best spell towards the end of the game, and the pressure told as, following a VAR intervention with the referee called to the screen, a penalty was awarded to the home side in the 7th minute of added time.

Sadly, seventeen year old Antonito, the hero of last season's play off, struck the ball well but at a height which the Real keeper could save, which meant that home fans made their way home somewhat disappointed.

The Malaga CF match report is here.
