It was a bitterly disappointing performance from Glamorgan on their annual visit to St Helen's for the only one day game that they play at the old venue. A defeat by 186 runs in any match is nothing but a hammering, and is poor reward for the hard working Swansea based supporters who do so much to take county cricket to the west.
Hampshire skipper Liam Dawson batted upon winning the toss, and the visitors overcame a slugging track to post an above par 316 off 50 overs, aided by some tiring Glamorgan bowling. Skipper Dawson was brilliant in smashing 100 not out off just 68 balls. It was as good a display of hitting that's been seen on a ground famous for 'that Nash/Sobers over' of sixes. He was ably supported by Will Smith with 84.
Glamorgan's reply was little more than a shambles. 25/5, 29/6, 59/8 say it all. To their credit Hampshire bowled and fielded well, Gareth Berg recording 4/25 and Ryan McLaren 4/42, but there's little doubt that the Glamorgan have gone right off the boil in recent weeks. This will need to change before the big T20 quarter final at home to Yorkshire.
